Paranormal Romance
Rating: 4 Cups
Valentina Kureyev, like her father, is a police detective and also like her father is attached to the neighborhood of Little Europe. A monster is stalking inhabitants of the area and killing them in a particularly horrible way. She has to find and stop him.
Baron Demetri Petronov was a rake and a woman predictably caused his downfall. Now he is a vampire and though cursed tries not to be as evil as his reputation would suggest.
A bloodthirsty monster is stalking the streets and alleys of Little Europe. A priest brings together the unlikely team of a police detective and a vampire in the hopes that the team will be enough to eliminate the evil that threatens them.
This is a very suspenseful tale of two unlikely partners investigating a series of horrible murders. Demetri is a very sophisticated and well mannered vampire and I enjoyed the interplay between him and the foul mouthed detective. Valentina is small but tough and determined to save her neighborhood and the city of the evil that threatens it. The development of the relationship between the two is deftly done. The author creates an ominous and almost oppressive atmosphere that is perfect for the story. The building tension and suspense made it almost impossible for me to put this one down until the last page.

Tamela Quijas’ Blood of the Beast is a sensual, deeply written tale from a gifted storyteller. Demetri is a tortured soul who longs for the light…and the woman who might bring about final redemption. Val is the street-smart cop who longs to honor her father’s memory…and close her case at any cost. Together they must challenge a bloodthirsty minion who ravages the city, and a love that could be Demetri’s final doom.
Ms. Quijas’ prose and elegance leaps from page one, and holds the reader captive until the last. For fans of lush, delightfully dark romance, this is a must-read!

I was told by a friend of a new writer Tamela Quijas. I ordered her book Blood of the Beast along with another book written by her here on Amazon called Angels Fire, Demon Blood. Blood of the Beast was a wonderful, exciting, well written story that I had a hard time putting down.
Baron Demetri Ivanovich Sergi Daskova Petronov, is a young ,charming, rich Russian Officer and Nobleman who has a way with “the ladies”. He meets Desmodine and she forever changes his life. He now walks the night as a vampire,a demon who no longer has a beating heart. He abhors what he is and for 100 years has never harmed a living soul. He feeds from blood he buys from a “friend” at the coroners office.
Valentina Kureyev is a second generation police officer, with her family roots from Russia. As a police detective she is working on a case of a “serial killer” who is terrorizing her city and the bodies are being left in her mothers and grandmothers neighborhood, the Russian Ghetto area. Val is young, strong willed and being in a masculine environment has a mouth like a truck driver and thinks she is invincible.
This is a story about Demetri trying to protect Val, as he has assumed the criminal is another Vampire. In doing so, her absolute spunk and tenacity to do her job to protect the people around her weaves a spell over him. He slowly takes her into his heart (the heart he shouldn’t have) and falls in love with her.
The book is a love story, a mystery thriller, and is about love and redemption…
I reccommend this book with 5 stars!!!
I now am excited to read Ms Quijas next book waitng for me Angels Fire, Demons Blood

In Tamela Quijas’s latest book, Blood of the Beast, her sophisticated European influence just rings from each page.
There’s a beast loose in the city! A beast who has been preying on dozens of homeless men and littering the streets with their bloodless corpses. A beast, Nobleman Demetri Petronov is all too familiar with.
And because of this intimate knowledge of the killer, Demetri offers his help to the detective assigned to grisly murder case, but Valentina Kureyev wants no part of Demetri or his help. She’s a tough-talking woman detective bound and determined to hunt down the serial killer stalking her city, all on her own.
And all the while she refuses his help, Valentina struggles to resist him. The man. The vampire. The Upyr who loves her and would do anything to save her life. . .
A great contemporary vampire romance that is actually plot-driven!

Blood of the Beast has all of these and more. If you want a quick read, this isn’t the book for you. If you want a book that has a lot of thought and feeling that shines throughout, then Blood of the Beast is a must read for 2009. Ms. Quijas has a way with words, the likes of which we don’t often see anymore. Reading her books is always a pleasure. I can’t wait to see what she writes next.
