This book dissapointed me. I guess the summary just sounded so sweet and intriguing, with the soldier slowing falling in love with this family through his letters from the little girl, and I was so dispointed when all of that took place within the prologue. Also, I knew there was going to be sex, but it was just so cliched and ridiculous that I coudln’t stand it…and it was just so soon! I just couldn’t buy into it. The story wasn’t all bad, I just couldn’t really be drawn into it.

I am a sucker for the breeds series but particularly if it involves a child. All my protectiveness comes out as does Wolfe’s. This is a man who as tries not to make friends. He considers himself a loner little does he know that all those acts of kindness has not gone unnoticed. He will need all those friends and allies to save Elizabeth and her daughter from the experimentation of the evil genetics’ council. They are the ones that think of breeds as not human but animals. It was another great read. This story is a continuation of the breed series. Everyone has a preconceived notion of the coyote breeds, they are the merciless hunters used by the genetics council. This is not the case with Kiowa. He has been asked to keep an eye on the president’s daughter. He is certainly unsuspecting that this is his mate. What follows is fast paced and riveting, as he tries to keep her safe from those who would kidnap her. Yes, anything that would keep a bill from passing that makes the breeds responsible for their own future.

I’ll preface this by saying I bought several of these Breed books with-out knowing they were romantica. I saw the rave reviews and thought it was just another paranormal romance series and figured I’d check it out.
So I’m going to try to base my opinion on the merits of the writing and storyline and not on the basis of the ridiculously corny love scenes! (The whole knot thing? Kind-of…gross!)
That being said I felt this one was a little better than the feline breed books that I read prior to this. I liked the premis in the beginning and Dash’s search for Elizabeth and Cassie. This book had more build-up to the sex scenes than some of the others and therefore the initial chemistry between the hero and heroine was better. But somewhere around the second half things kind-of started falling apart. Elizabeth started getting, dare I say it? Annoying!
Why does a woman, whose sole objective for two years has been trying to keep her daughter safe, balk at finally getting her to safety. Why does she pitch such a hissy fit? She’d rather risk her daughters life than endure a short seperation? Please!! And then the book is filled with stupid lines like, “Knot me, baby!” that had me rolling my eyes, which I doubt is the intended effect.
The other thing that bothers me is the seemingly random appearance of Simon and his harem. No explanation given as to what his relationship is to Dash. (Although I guess we can assume they fought together in the military at some point?) But what of these adoring women?! Who are they that they’re so dangerous! Why in the world are they so dedicated to this one man and he to them even as they offer their sexual favors to many other men while he beams at them proudly! These are strong women to be admired? They sound like they have severe psychological and emotional problems to me! And a man who loves them is proud of the fact they’re so free and easy with their bodies? Oh, yeah! That’s believable! Again, with absolutely no explanation from the author, I don’t know what to think about this! The storyline’s written just a little to cheesily for my taste. I doubt I’ll continue with this series. However, if your into porn, I guess you’ll like them. There’s plenty of that! If you want to read a good series that deals with sexual subject matter that’s a little more raw and edgey than the norm and still has an excellent storyline let me recommend J.R. Wards Black Dagger Brotherhood, or Lara Adrians Midnight Breed series. Now those are hot books!!

Don’t hesitate, just put it in your cart! She just gets better and better. Her characters are terrific and the romance wasn’t written in her sleep. She was “in her zone”.
