You know, it reads okay.
The heroine was crap, but the rest was good. In this day, it is beyond irritating to have a heroine display TSTL moments. I would like this book a whole lot more if it didn’t read like a break down of JR Ward’s incredible series, that was then put together like a checklist. It kind of read like fanfic.

WARNING! This book is all kinds of disgusting! It uses very foul language and way too explicit detail of sex scenes for my taste.

I has just finished devouring the Sookie Stackhouse vampire series and was looking to continue reading along that same vein (no vampire puns intended)! I downloaded this book because it was free, and boy I now know why it was free – it was horrible! The writing was juvenile, the plot as one-dimensional as your typical bodice-ripping romance, and the characters were completely stereotypical and utterly boring. I am not a romance novel-lover, so perhaps that was my mistake in reading this book, but I had hoped for more. I think the premise of the book would be interesting if the author beefed up her characters and took out the cliche romance novel dialogue.

Buyer (or downloader) beware: This book is an EROTIC romance novel with VERY explicit sex scenes in them.
If you’re considering downloading this for your Twilight-enthralled teen to read: DON’T.
Other than that, it’s an okay book. Nothing special. The “romance” moves too quickly to be believable, even with a vampire’s sensual aura pushing things along. It does have a refreshing take on the whole vampire story; only males are vampires and the way they originated is quite different from what you’re used to. There’s a quick explanation thrown in for the ancient civilizations that disappeared without a trace, enough to make you say “Hmmm…” and ponder the possibilities. The story moves along at a good pace, making the book a quick read.
For those who purposely download it *for* the erotic romance angle, this is my first time reading a book like this so I’m no authority on how much of the content is usually devoted to… heavy breathing. There’s quite a bit of it here though, so the lulls between the “action” are short.
The one star is for there being no mention at all in the book’s description that this is strictly 18+ material with extremely explicit sexual scenes. As for the story itself… meh… 3.5 stars.
