Paranormal romance recommendations – good ones, that is?

I’m looking for good books in the paranormal romance genre – not like one of those Harlequin romance novels or anything. I’ve recently read The Summoning and the Awakening by Kelley Armstrong and Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead and liked them.

I’m -not- a fan of the Twilight series, Blue Bloods, or House of Night, so please don’t recommend those.

Thanks in advance.

  1. Patricia Briggs Mercy Thomson Novels and her wolf books featuring Anna and charles (they are better than Armstrong if you ask me)

    Charlane Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse series

    Ilona Andrews Magic series

  2. I really like Vampire Academy!
You should try The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare and The Wolves of Mercy Falls. Although, I haven’t started to read any of the The Wolves of Mercy Falls books, they sound very intriguing.
The Gemma Doyle trilogy by Libba Bray is one of my favorites.
Maximum Ride series by James Patterson, there is romance in the background that becomes more prominent in later books.
The Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld is also very good.
Wicked Lovely series by Melissa Marr isn’t one of my favorites by a lot of people enjoyed them.

Some other good books that aren’t series are:
    Beastly by Alex Flynn
The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
    Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin
The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer

  3. Have you checked out The Chosen Ones series by Christina Dodd? So far I’ve read Storm of Visions and Storm of Shadows and I’ve enjoyed them both.

  4. A friend, Ali, and I had the same problem, so we started out own online reference site and bookshop for paranormal romance and urban fantasy. We onlt sell in Australia and New Zealand, but we try to gather as much information as we can (while working other jobs :(
about books we like. So we’ve got lots of reviews (under author tab), and recommendations etc that might help. Have a look at

You should find some really good ideas here :)
