June 15, 2011 Sex in a vampire romance novel?
Question:
I’ve been writing a vampire romance novel for a while now and I can’t decide if sex should be included. I’ve been thinking maybe just “implying” there was sex. Or maybe I shouldn’t include it at all. Let me know what you guys think.

Do you think it would fit?
If it seems totally out of place, don’t do it obviously.

Anne Rice did it in her books and it worked.

Well, if its a romance novel, generally most romance novels have sex scenes.

Don’t believe there is one that doesn’t have any in – just check out Christine Feehan’s Dark series if you want some pointers.

If you feel uncomfortable don’t do it. However, if it is vital or will expand the story, I say go for it. If you definitely want to include it, but u don’t really like writing about it, just mention to it and then like end a paragraph or chapter.

Suggest you ‘imply’ at the most, and leave out entirely if you can– and still write a romance novel. You’ll probably have to imply something about sex, or desire, anyway.
The reason for this suggestion is that, if your work were ever to be published anywhere in any form, it will be accessible to a wider audience (meaning the pre-teen group, who have supported Meyer so well).
Good luck with it.
