connie mason and lisa kleypas write really good histroical romance
historical romance? Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights…
My fave is Judith McNaught- any of her books
1. Once and always
3. Something wonderful
Other nice romance authors are-
That’s all at the top of my head.
Really try Judith McNaught!!!
Anything by Jude Devereaux or Kathleen Woodiwiss or Virginia Henley.
I’m pretty fond of the Diana Gabaldon series starting with Outlander. It’s just not a romantic historical novel and has a little bit of something in it for everyone.
If you haven’t read all about Jamie and Clair then get thee to the nearest library and check it out. I’m not a big romantic book fan but these ones are certainly the best I’ve ever read. I hope you enjoy the series as much as I have.
My two favorite historical authors are Marsha Canham and Amanda Quick. Marsha’s plots are very complicated, compelling and intense. Amanda’s are light and fun.
Lisa Kleypas, Jo Beverly and Claire Delacroix are also very good. I used to love Johanna Lindsey but not so much any more. Catherine Coulter’s “Bride” series is pretty good as well. Arnette Lamb does a Scottish romance better than just about anyone, and Iris Johansen’s historicals, especially Midnight Warrior and Lion’s Bride, are fabulous. Sorry to say I don’t know a whole lot about fantasy/sci-fi romance.
Get “The Notebook” by James Patterson; actually, anything by him is superb
Also, a book called “Thurston House” by Danielle Steel. There is a female author who writes a lot of paranormal romance, mostly dealing with time travel, and as soon as I remember her name, I’ll edit it in here.
maybe victor hugo’s “les miserables”
- The Dark Bride – Laura Restrepo
- Daughter of Fortune – Isabel Allende
- Wuthering Heights – Emily Bronte
I’d say mine… but I write contemporary romance w/ a twist. (check it out on my website, http://www.maryquast.com)
Anyways, I do read alot…. I mean alot. So I’d say….
*Anything by Jude Deveraux for historical… love her stuff. Much is done in series but they are super good!
*J.R. Ward writes some good vampire romance – check out Dark Lover, part of the Black Dagger Brotherhood collection, published under Signet Eclipse
*Sapphire Dreams by Pamela P. Poulsen won her a 2005 Golden Heart Award for best Paranormal Romance. Check it out.
*Blue Moon by Lori Handeland won a RITA award for best Paranormal.
* For fun check out MyRomanceStory.com for smoe interesting stuff.
As for fantasy, there’s alot of new stuff out there I haven’t gotten into. But I did come across the script for Final Fantasy X… yes, the game…. it was writen by a Japanese man, and the most heart wrentching story I’ve ever read. Incredibly romantic. I cried every time I read it. But it does have a sad ending. And it’s hard to find.
Good luck, happy reading.
the mills and boons series
JR Ward – “Black Dagger Brotherhood” series
Gena Showalter – “Lord of the Underworld” series
Katie MacAlister – “Aisling Grey, Guardian” series
Laurel K Hamilton – “Meredith Gentry” series
If you’re looking for a great love story with historical / paranormal / fantasy elements, look no further than Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander” saga.
Robin D. Owens
Patti O’ Shea
There is a series out starting with the book “Undead and Unwed” by Mary Janice Davidson. They’re comedy, romance, and it deals with vampires but not in a creepy way.
yes Jude Devereaux is really good.
Pretty much everything by Nora Roberts, but her newer stuff is the best, In my opinion.
If you like historical Romance you should check out:
Christina Dodd, Judith McNaught, and Julia Quinn.
A good series is the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. The books provide an alternate take on vampires.People who are unjustly murdered call upon Artemis(Greek goddess) and she grants them a day to avenge themselves. After that they are recruited to her army to fight against evil. These are romance novels.Best of the series are ‘Dance with the devil’ and ‘Seize the night’.
Werehunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. The books in the series are Nightplay,Dragonswan,Stroke of midnight,Unleash the night. These are romance novels. You can read not only about were-wolves but also about were-dragons,were-panthers,wer… and were-tigers.The heros are handsome, powerful and with a mysterious past.Interesting reading. The best of the lot is Night play.
For a really funny vampire romance books read Argeneau book series by Lynsay Sands. The first one of the lot is ‘Single white vampire’.Recluse vampire and novelist Lucern Argeneau finds his lair being invaded by his determined editor Kate.He has to hide the fact that he is a vampire from Kate, partake his daily blood quota and manage his family. His interfering all-vampire family doesn’t make things easier.Infact his mom thinks that Kate is perfectly suitable for him.
Prime vampire novels by Susan Sizemore is interesting. The best of the lot is the 4th book ‘Master of Darkness.’ Reluctant vampire hunter Eden Faveau thinks Laurent is her new partner in an investigation to take down a local vampire drug ring. Laurent is really a renegade vampire from the Tribe Manticore and he is in the right place at the right time to take advantage of Eden. He needs her computer expertise to hack a laptop that he stole from the Tribe leader, Justinian.
Rebecca Paisley-A basket of wishes.
Its about a fairy Splendour who is ordered to marry a human( a duke). The poor hero is confused by the woman who will shrink if not kissed regularly, drinks apricot face lotion. On top of that he is harassed by splendour’s sister who even turns him into a snail. His cousin Emil thinks that Splendour is exactly what the doctor ordered for the staid ,boring Jordan.
Mary Balogh-Lady with a black umbrella(Funny romance). The heroine is always rescuing the hero-whether he wants to be rescued or not.
Lynsay Sands-A bride promises her father that she’ll obey her husband ‘always’.I mean ‘always’.The poor groom didn’t know what he was going to get when he was coarced to marry the king’s daughter.
Anne Gracie-The perfect rake. The heroine just wants to save her sisters from their abusive grand father. However one lie led to another and another. The hero was perfectly willing to go along with the charades.
