What in a young adult romance/supernatural novel would keep you interested and anxious?

I would like it if the plot was highly original, and different from other stories that I’ve read.
Lots of twists and turns in the story would make it more interesting, and conflicts with the love interests [or something like it] are a definite must.

What I look for most in a romantic/supernatural book I am mostly drawn to unrequited love stories. There’s always something great about two people that want to be together but can’t. I adore love triangles.
I agree w/Samantha re: unrequited love but want to add a few other things:
1 – a deep selfish need for attention from a guy, can be simply a certain “hard to get” guy’s attention or a guy changing for the girl. unrealistic? maybe, but it keeps people interested
2 – breaking free from something, such as parents’ control or school rules
3 – regarding supernatural elements… possibly something that is revealed to the reader but not to the protagonist. like a misinterpreted ESP message, etc.
Romance-wise: a legitimate love triangle, one that still keeps you upset even when one is chosen
Paranormal-wise: something new! a different legend or new twist on a legend (ie sparkly vampires)
